1. Is St. John Francis Regis School Accredited?
St. John Francis Regis School is accredited by Missouri Nonpublic and as well as AdvancEd.
2. How does St. John Francis Regis School compare to the public schools?
Based on testing results, St. Regis School compares very favorably to our local public schools. On standardized assessments our students test above national standards for grade level; sometimes 2-4 years above grade level.
3. Do students have to be Catholic to attend St. John Francis Regis School?
Students need not be Catholic to attend St. Regis School. All students are expected to exhibit Christian actions and strive to model the teaching of Jesus Christ in their everyday lives.
4. Why should we consider Catholic education for our children?
Catholic schools have a long tradition of excellence. By placing the teachings of Jesus Christ at the center of a strong academic curriculum, Catholic schools are able to educate the heart, mind, and soul of today’s young people. The goal of St. Regis School is to help each child become a faith-filled, responsible and productive member of society.
Today’s students will see our world face a multitude of challenges. Catholic education will prepare them to meet those challenges with Christ in their life. Combining the technologies of today with values for life, Catholic school students will grow to be faithful Catholics, loving family members and responsible adults well equipped to become leaders of their communities.
5. What is the curriculum at St. John Francis Regis School?
St. Regis School follows the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph curriculum which is aligned with the Department of Missouri Education standards as well as infused with Catholic faith/values. We strive to provide learning experiences that enable all students to master the grade level expectations and maximize their God-given talents.
6. What does St. John Francis Regis School offer beyond the core curriculum?
Students in grades K through 8 participate in Music, Art, Physical Education, and Technology classes. Students in grades 5 through 8 are offered other learning opportunities such as Choir, Band, Student Ambassadors, and Server Training.
7. Are extra-curricular sports offered at St. John Francis Regis School?
Our sports program is offered through the Parochial League of Kansas City. It begins at the 3rd grade level. Depending on the grade of the child, the program offers for girls: soccer, volleyball, basketball and track and for boys: soccer, football, basketball and track.
8. How often do students attend Mass?
All students attend Mass once per week. These Masses are usually held on Thursday mornings at 8:30AM but may occur on other days periodically to celebrate a special occasion, feast day, or Holy Day of Obligation.
9. Are there opportunities for my child to work on service projects?
Our school prides itself on the service we do as an entire community, each of our classrooms, and each of our students individually.
10. What type of discipline is used at St. John Francis Regis School?
St. Regis School has a school wide discipline program. We utilize the BIST Program.The BIST program emphasizes personal responsibility for their behavior and actions, develop appropriate self-control, exhibit self-discipline, and accept the responsibility and natural consequences of any inappropriate behavior. Our discipline system is reflected in our Catholic values. Our focus, in cooperation with the parent, is to develop reverence, responsibility and respect in each of our students. Our goal is to help each child to independently choose to follow expectations because it is the right thing to do. We want to foster an internal motivation that is age appropriate.
11. How do parents get involved at St. John Francis Regis School?
There are many opportunities to help at St. Regis School. We appreciate any amount of time you can donate whether it is to help out in the library, at athletic events, being a room helper, or being an officer on the School Advisory or Parent/Teacher Organization. Just let us know how you would like to help. All volunteers at our school must first attend the Protecting God’s Children Workshop and have a current Background Check on file.
Parents are asked to donate a minimum of four (4) volunteer hours per quarter to the school.
12. Can we set up a time to visit the school?
We encourage parents who want to know more about St. Regis School to visit during the school day. Contact the school office to set up a tour of the school or to schedule a shadow opportunity for a student.
13. How soon can I enroll my Kindergartener?
You can call the school office any time during the current school year to receive information about the next year's Kindergarten.
14. What are the enrollment criteria at St. John Francis Regis?
The Catholic schools of the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph in Missouri welcome students of every race, color, faith, national origin and gender and admit them to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to students in these schools. Preference in admissions is given to members of the Catholic parishes served by the Diocesan schools and members of the Catholic faith.
